Pascrell spent 12 years as a high school teacher in Paramus, New Jersey, teaching several subjects including psychology, before being hired as a professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was appointed to the Paterson Board of Education, and served as president of the board.

Nellie Pou NJ-09

Nelida “Nellie” Avila Pou[born May 20, 1956; is an American Democratic Party politician who has served in the New Jersey Senate since 2012, representing the 35th Legislative District. She previously represented the 35th district in the General Assembly. When Pou was sworn into the Assembly on January 29, 1997, to succeed Bill Pascrell, she became the first woman and the first Hispanic to represent the 35th district.

On August 29, 2024, Pou was selected to replace Rep. Bill Pascrell on the ballot as the Democratic candidate in New Jersey’s 9th congressional district following his death eight days earlier.

LaMonica McIver NJ-10

LaMonica R. McIver (born June 20, 1986) is an American politician who is a member of the United States House of Representatives for New Jersey’s 10th congressional district, having won the September 2024 special election to succeed Donald Payne Jr., who died in office in April 2024. She was sworn in on September 23, 2024.
